Mapeza Moves On From CAF Confed. Cup Loss

FC Platinum (FCP) coach Norman Mapeza said the club has to move on from the defeats in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions and wait for the next tournaments.

The 2019 Castle Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions crashed out of both the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup after losing to Tanzanian and Senegalese opposition, respectively.

FCP lost 1-4 on aggregate to Tanzanian giants, Simba SC to crash out of the Champions League, and a few weeks later lost 0-1 home and away to Senegelase club ASC Jaraaf.

Speaking in a post-match press conference on Sunday following the 0-1 loss to Jaraaf in the second leg of a Confederation Cup playoff, Mapeza said:

We lost the game, it’s a game of football, we will do our homework, wait for the next tournament then we move on.

There was nothing wrong with the team, it’s unfortunate in a game of football, every time you lose, you have to pick something.

But, I am not a coach who picks something after my team loses a game.

Mapeza believes there were key moments during matches when match officials (referees) seemed to be biased against the Zimbabweans. He said:

I am not happy, of course, but my team played very well, but there were some moments that we felt the arbitrage (the French word for refereeing), wasn’t fair to us.

But, I think that is becoming normal in Africa that whenever you go and play away (from home), you always face these challenges.
