South Africa Anticipates COVID-19 Third Wave

Zimbabwean’s Southern neighbor South Africa is anticipating a coronavirus third wave and has reportedly started planning for it, eNCA reports.

Health experts according to the publication have anticipated that the third wave will probably hit the country at the onset of the winter season when temperatures drop:

Co-chair of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on COVID-19, Professor Salim Abdool Karim says it will likely hit at the beginning of winter. And, he says the time to begin planning for it, is now.

The country which went through a second wave recently has managed to contain new infections as new COVID-19 infections drop to less than 4000 per day after a high of close to 15000 per day last month. The country has the highest number of infections and COVID-19 deaths on the continent.

Meanwhile, South Africa took the first delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine from India on Monday and according to the Health Minister, health workers will be vaccinated first before they craft an effective rollout plan.
