Australia Records Zero Local Transmission COVID-19 Cases In 12 Days

Australia has recorded zero local COVID-19 transmission cases for 12 days, CNN reports. According to the publication the development was communicated by the country’s Health Minister Greg Hunt who at a press conference on Friday said:

That’s a testament (not just) to the work of our medical professionals, our public health teams, but Australians everywhere for the way in which they’ve observed the distancing requirements, the way they have protected each other, the way that they’ve come out for testing.

Australia which has so far recorded 28,800 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 909 deaths is supposed to hold a tennis tournament the Australian Open which will start on 8 February and end on 21 February.

Australia has been under fire after they quarantined athletes who went to the country and some of the athletes reportedly complained about the quarantine and made several demands.
