Zimbabwe’s overcrowded prisons are considered high risk for inmates as the respiratory diseases can be transmitted easily.

Recently, MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere tested positive for COVID-19 soon after she was released on bail following week-long detention.

Another MDC Alliance official, Jacob Mafume, had to self-isolate when he came out of jail on bail after three of his cellmates succumbed to COVID-19.
