Cyclone Eloise Weakens Into An Overland Depression

Tropical Cyclone Eloise has weakened further into an overland depression with winds of 55km/h, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has said.

The tropical system is currently [3 PM] situated along the border of Zimbabwe and Mozambique moving in a south-westerly direction.

According to SAWS, Eloise is expected to bring disruptive rainfall (of 100 to 200mm) in places in a 24 hour period tonight (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday) for South Africa.

Over 200mm rainfall is possible in places along the escarpment areas of Mpumalanga into Swaziland and northern KZN into Monday.

Eloise made landfall in the coastal town of Beira in Mozambique earlier this morning in the Beira area (Saturday 23 January 2021).
