Selmor Mtukudzi Manatsa, the daughter of the late legendary musician and national hero Oliver Mtukudzi, has defended Dr Jackie Stone, a Harare medical biochemist following the latter’s criticism by professor Rashid Ferrand.
Selmor claimed that Dr Stone saved her uncle’s life from COVID-19 even though he is diabetic. She said:
Tinogona kupedza chirwere ichi tega muno muZimbabwe nana chiremba vedu tisina kumirira kupihwa vaccine nevamwe. (We can bring this disease to an end in Zimbabwe with our own doctors without waiting to be given a vaccine by people from other countries).
God help us.
Selmor’s remarks came after Ferrand, a Harare-based clinical epidemiologist with the Biomedical Research and Training Institute, wrote a scathing letter to the Medical and Dental Professional Council of Zimbabwe (MDPCZ) warning of dangers of Dr Stone’s COVID-19 work.
According to The NewsHawks, Dr Stone is promoting and advocating for a combination of therapy for patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19.
She is behind how Ionano silver solution works. Several videos of her addresses and demos of the treatment are in circulation.
In her letter to MDPCZ, Ferrand accused Stone of taking advantage of patients’ desperation and demanded an urgent review of her actions. She wrote:
[Stone is] taking advantage of her patients’ anxiety and vulnerable situation to promote panic and utilisation of a non-evidence-based treatment regime.
We call for an urgent review of her actions and fitness to practice in Zimbabwe.
