Girl (16) Robbed, Raped After Responding To WhatsApp Job Advert
A 16-year-old girl from Gutu was robbed of her laptop and some cash in Masvingo after being lured to the town with a job offer by her assailant.
According to a statement by national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the girl responded to a WhatsApp job advertisement which required young girls interested in the purported job offers to bring a laptop to use on the job.
On arrival in Masvingo, the young girl was taken to a building under construction by an unknown male who then raped her and robbed her of the laptop and cash. Asst Insp Nyathi said:
The ZRP urges members of the public to be wary of online advertisements and jobs being posted by some unscrupulous criminals who end up robbing them of their valuables.
This follows a case which occurred in Masvingo on 9 January 2021, in which a girl (16) from Gutu was lured by an unknown male adult, through a WhatsApp message advertisement dubbed “kuwana basa nyore nyore”, in which the accused person alleged that he was offering employment to young girls.

The accused further stated that those willing to be employed must have a laptop for use.
The girl went to Masvingo where she was later robbed of a laptop plus cash and raped in a building under construction.
