Flooded Gweru River Sweeps Away A Toyota Twin Cab, 6 Feared Dead

A Toyota Twin Cab attempting to cross a flooded Gweru river was reportedly swept away by the river’s strong currents and 6 people including the driver might have drowned in the unfortunate incident, The Sunday mail reports.

The accident reportedly occurred along the Gweru- Motobo highway this morning and rescue efforts were underway in the morning with witnesses speculating that the Twin cab which was towing a compressor might be submerged under the water.

The incident was confirmed by Gweru District Development Coordinator, Mr. Jorum Chimedza who said:

We are still waiting for the Sub aqua unit so that they can trace if we can locate the six people who were in  the car when it was wept away.  The car is also missing and only a compressor which it was towing  had been found.

Last week, disaster struck Chiredzi North after heavy rains caused Gungwa Dam overspilling which caused flooding on some parts of Mutirikwi River marooning a family of 5. The family had to be rescued by an Airforce helicopter.
