English Premier League side, Aston Villa, have been hit by the coronavirus forcing the club to cancel training and close their training ground on Wednesday.

Aston Villa which is home to Zimbabwean international, Marvelous Nakamba, becomes the fourth club to be affected by the virus since the beginning of this season. In a statement, Aston Villa said:

A large number of first-team players and staff returned positive tests after being routinely tested on Monday and immediately went into isolation.

A second round of testing was carried out immediately and produced more positive results today.

First-team training ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup match with Liverpool was cancelled.

Britain is grappling with a new and aggressive coronavirus strain that has compelled authorities to impose another national lockdown as cases surged in the recent past.

Some matches including Manchester v Everton and Southampton’s FA Cup home match against Shrewsbury have so far been postponed as a considerable number of players in some teams had tested positive for the virus.
