Meikles Hotel Suspends Annual Firework Display

Meikles Hotel has announced the suspension of its annual firework display at midnight this year in line with government measures to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Meikles Hotel made the announcement in a short a statement posted on its social media channels. The notice read:

Kindly note that Meikles Hotel will not be carrying out its annual firework display at midnight in line with government COVID-19 prevention measures.

As 2020 draws to a close, we take this opportunity to extend our best wishes for the New Year.

This comes after the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) issued a stern warning against members of the public who will venture outside their homes after 10 pm tonight in celebration of the New Year.

In a statement issued on Thursday afternoon, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said those who violate the curfew order and the national lockdown will be arrested. He said:

The ZRP reiterates that as the nation awaits the oncoming New Year’s Eve (2021). Arrests will be effected on anyone engaged in illegal gatherings which contravene the Government’s national COVID-19 regulations and curfew order.

The public is reminded that the curfew order runs from 2200 hours till 0600 hours, the next day.
