The government through the Higher and Tertiary Education ministry reportedly recalled all student teachers who had been deployed to schools for their teaching practices because they are not adequately prepared to face the students, the Daily News reports.
The ministry is convinced the student teachers must continue their face to face tutorials at their campus once again before they can go for their teaching practice.
Student teachers who had been deployed to start their practice in January 2021 will have to start in May 2021 according to a notice that was sent to principals of teachers colleges, by the tertiary education programs assistant director Christopher Mudzingwa which stated that:
The class of students who started their course in January 2020 should continue with their face-to-face tutorials from January 4 to March 26, 2021 on campus in preparation for the teaching practice deployment in May 2021
In this regard, ensure that there is adequate preparation of student teachers towards their teaching practice.
This came after student teachers at Morgan Zintec Teachers College were arrested after they protested the decision to repeat some of the classes they missed in 2021.
