Govt Threatens School Heads Over Failure To Submit Names Of "Incapacitated" Teachers
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has threatened school heads with disciplinary action after they failed to submit the names of teachers who are not reporting for duty due to incapacitation.
On 6 November 2020, the Ministry sent a memo to school heads requesting them to submit names of teachers who are not reporting for duty. The names were supposed to have been submitted by Wednesday, 11 November.
However, by the end of the day on the 13th of November, two days after the deadline had elapsed, no names had been submitted.
In a follow-up memo this Monday, the Ministry warned school heads that non-submission or further delays may be interpreted as sympathising with the teachers. The memo read in part:
As of end of day, Friday 13 November 2020 no province had submitted the requested information on names of teachers who had not reported for duty since 28 September as requested by the Public Service Commission.

This memo serves as a reminder that the information that was due on Wednesday 11 November 2020 is now overdue.
Non-submission or further delays may be interpreted as sympathising with the industrial action which may lead to disciplinary action being taken against the responsible officials.
This matter must be treated with the urgency that it deserves.
This comes as Public Service and Social Welfare Minister Paul Mavima said that teachers who did not report for duty will not get bonuses for this year.
