AFCON: Good, Bad News For Warriors Ahead Of Algeria Clash

Zimbabweans will be happy to know that Warriors striker Tino Kadewere who plies his trade for French Ligue 1 side Lyon is expected home today for the back-to-back AFCON qualifiers against Algeria.

Sadly, his compatriot, Marshall Munetsi who plays for Stade de Reims in the same league has been ruled out after suffering an injury on Sunday night.

Kadewere was on Monday named in the French Ligue 1 Team of the Week after coming off the bench to score a brace that handed Olympique Lyon a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Saint-Etienne in Sunday’s Rhone-Alpes derby.

Warriors fans would be expecting Kadewere to reproduce his magic when they face the Desert Foxes of Algeria to boost the country’s chances of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.

Last week, Warriors teammate Munetsi, was also in the Team of the Week following a commanding performance in Stade de Reims’ 2-1 victory over RC Strasbourg.

His team informed ZIFA yesterday that the Zimbabwean midfielder suffered a knock during the 4-4 draw against Lens on Sunday night.

Munetsi became the fourth player to drop out of the 24-member squad after Butholezwe Ncube and the United States-based duo of Tatenda Mkuruva and Tendai Jirira who were forced out by travel complications.
