VP Chiwenga Says It's Time For Youths To Have Land

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has said the youths are presented with an opportunity to apply for land for farming purposes.

The former army boss made the remarks at the 2020 National Young Champion Farmer Awards held in Harare this Friday. He said:

I am humbled and grateful to officiate at this second edition of the national young champion farmer awards. We are establishing vast tracts of land along the Zambezi, Save, Kanyemba, Limpopo Valley and Chimanimani for forestry, citrus, horticulture. This land is for production and the young farmers here is the opportunity for you to come on board and venture into estates, government will support you, to get land there as long as you proved to be productive.

He speaks as some who benefitted from the land redistribution programmes in the country are failing to utilise all their land due to a number of issues including lack of adequate resources.

Since two decades ago when Zimbabwe embarked on the fast track land reform programme, the country’s agriculture sector has been on a downward trajectory with farmers blaming climate change and lack of funding.
