ZIMSEC Exams Won't Be Deferred - Murwira

Amon Murwira, the Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister on Wednesday told Parliament that there was no going back on public examinations set to start next month despite protestations that pupils have lost study time due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

Murwira was responding to Magwegwe legislator Anele Ndebele (MDC Alliance) during the National Assembly’s question-and-answer session.

Ndebele had said students at private schools were more prepared than their counterparts at public schools where teachers are ‘incapacitated’ to which Murwira responded by saying:

The government is trying its best to make sure that there is harmony in the education sector; it is a matter of putting interest in education.

The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council is doing its best to prepare for exams, which will not be written in a compromising position.

It is up to us as people to prepare for students to sit for exams without anybody being compromised.

Murwira added that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has provided radio and online lessons, thus pupils were ready to sit for the examinations.
