ZESA To Introduce Electric Cars Next Year

Power utility company Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority ZESA has said it will introduce electric cars next year in a bid to curb vehicle abuse by employees of the parastatal, the Chronicle reports.

This was revealed by ZESA CEO Sydney Gata who said the electric cars will boost the parastatal’s performance. Speaking during a meeting that was attended by representatives of the Government and other stakeholders in Bindura, Gata said:

No one will say his car has no fuel, the cars are rechargeable, they will recharge overnight whilst in parking. They will also reduce the level at which the company’s cars are being abused by the workers who are currently taking them home

There are no cars for managers amongst these 200 trucks and vans. These cars are meant to improve our service delivery efficiency

Gata also told the meeting that ZESA was under-resourced and the local community could help the power utility company if the need arises. He said the public can go and ferry ZESA employees when needed if ZESA cars break down.
