MDC Alliance's Remaining Councilor Wins Gwanda Mayoral Elections

The MDC Alliance has also won the Gwanda Mayoral Elections a few short hours after winning the Beitbridge Mayoral Election the Chronicle reports. The party’s remaining Gwanda councilor won the election, it has emerged

Gwanda Ward 4 councilor, Njabulo Siziba was elected the new mayor in today’s Gwanda Mayoral Elections. Speaking after the elections, Councilor Siziba said:

I would like to thank you all my fellow councillors for entrusting me with this role of being the mayor of the town. I hope to carry on from where my predecessor left off. My main focus will be issues of service delivery such as water, sewer and refuse collection. It should show that our town has leadership which has people at heart by the level of service delivery

Siziba’s victory was also confirmed by MDC Alliance Secretary General Chalton Hwende who tweeted and said:

Congrats to our remaining Cllrs in Gwanda for defeating the Zanu-PF backed Mwonzora rebellion team. We secured the Mayorship against all the odds. Thanks to our Provincial Leadership and our National Local Gvt Secretary Hon Zvidzai

The Gwanda Mayoral seat fell vacant after Khupe recalled former Gwanda Mayor Jastone Mazhale. However, Khupe is reportedly planning to recall 80 MDC Alliance councilors because according to her camp they have seized to be members of the party.
