Popular activist Godrey Kurauone is on the MDC T 2014 structures’ secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora’s radar as reports indicate Mwonzora’s recall axe is now hovering over Masvingo, The Standard reports.
Mwonzora is reportedly planning to recall Kuraone and other Masvingo councillors who according to him are ”disloyal” to the party which was given a phoenix resurrection by the Supreme Court on 31 March.
According to sources that spoke to the publication, Mwonzora is targeting Masvingo urban ward 4 councillor Godfrey Kurauone who is reportedly a strong Chamisa ally, ward 5’s Daniel Mberikunashe, who is related to Chamisa; and ward 7’s Richard Musekiwa, who is also said to be fiercely loyal to Chamisa.
When contacted for comment by Tell Zim Mwonzora reportedly said his axe was going to spare Masvingo’s 7 MDC Alliance councilors if they remain loyal to the outfit he now runs together with Khupe, Komichi and Mudzuri. Mwonzora threatened:
Currently, we have not received any complaints as to the behaviour of councillors in Masvingo so they must not worry. We only go for those that show disloyalty to the party.
Many chose to be misled by the likes of Tendai Biti and they thought it was impossible, but I am glad that they now understand what we are capable of doing.
Godfrey Kurauone was arrested and thrown in for over 45 days in July after he was accused of taking party in planned 31st July protests.
The MDC T has recalled over 84 councillors in Harare, Beitbridge, Victoria Falls, Gwanda, Marondera and Bulawayo. They have also recalled 31 legislators since the 31st March court ruling that made Khupe the interim MDC T leader.
