"Trespassing" ZANU PF Youth League Member Shot Dead

A member of the ruling ZANU PF’s Youth League died on the spot Friday while nine others are battling for life at Sally Mugabe hospital after they were shot at a housing scheme in Ushewokunze, Harare South allegedly for trespassing.

The Herald reports that the 10 youths were coming from the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport to bid farewell to Malawi president Lazarus Chakwera who was in Zimbabwe.

When they arrived at the housing project, the youths heard that their colleague, Tonderai Marongwe (the deceased) had been arrested by security officers manning the place.

They went to, CFI Holdings offices (the developer of the property), to inquire about the arrest and that is when they were chased away by guards who fired at them.

The incident was confirmed by the national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi who said investigations were already underway. He said:

We confirm that one person was shot and died while other people were injured.

Two guards have been picked by police in connection with the incident. It seems there was a dispute between some youths and some cooperative members which resulted in the shooting incident.

Two guards are currently in police custody and investigations are in progress. Reports are that these guards are contracted by CFI. Nine suspects were arrested for criminal trespass, but what is clear is that there are land disputes in that area.

The Herald visited the scene and found a group of ZANU PF youths gathered outside the CFI offices singing revolutionary songs.

They told the publication that the deceased was arrested after returning from the airport.
