Zimbabwe Opens Airports To International Flights
Zimbabwe on Thursday reopened airports to international flights as the Southern African country moves to ease coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
Five airlines including RwandAir and Fastjet have already committed to resuming service into the country.
Fastjet landed at Victoria Falls International Airport on its Harare-Victoria Falls domestic route as the airliner was also expected to resume the Harare-Johannesburg route.
Meanwhile, Ethiopian Airlines, Emirates, Kenyan Airways. and RwandAir were expected to start flying into Harare this Thursday and Friday.
Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) acting general manager Ms Bertha Muzangaza confirmed the development saying a number of airlines are expected in the next few weeks. Muzangaza said in a statement:

Today Zimbabwe reopens its airports for international scheduled flights for the first time since March 2020. Three airlines are scheduled to resume international flights. Fastjest Harare to Jo’burg, Ethiopian Airlines Addis Ababa to Harare and Emirates Dubai to Harare. Kenya Airways and RwandAir will both resume on 2 October.

She also indicated that passengers arriving in Zimbabwe must produce a negative PRC result conducted within 48 hours prior to travel while those showing symptoms of Covid-19 will be tested at the airport.
Travellers interviewed by the Chronicle expressed excitement over the development that is likely to revive the tourism sector that was dealt a huge blow by the outbreak of the coronavirus.
