Land Borders To Remain Closed To The Public - Govt

Zimbabwe’s Land borders will remain closed for human traffic until further notice, the government of Zimbabwe has notified the public, The Herald reports.

This was revealed by the Home Affairs, Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe who said even though Zimbabwe’s airports can now accept international travelers, land borders are still not open to the traveling public.

Addressing the issue, Kazembe Kazembe said:

We haven’t opened the border at Beitbridge as yet. The border is open to commercial cargo, diplomats and returning residents. In fact, the regulations as stipulated by the current lockdown precautions still stand. However, the issue will be discussed in due course

His sentiments were echoed by Environment, Climate Change, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu who said for now airports were the only ports of entry open to the general public:

As far as we are concerned we have only opened airports for tourists and the rest of the borders remain open only to commercial not general human traffic,

Land borders were closed in March and over the last 6 months were only attending to returning residents and commercial cargo. Travelers were hoping that borders will open and allow them to travel as some survive on moving goods between countries for resale.
