Govt Says Soldiers, Police To Continue Enforcing Lockdown Restrictions

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa has said soldiers and police will be kept at “strategic points” to continue enforcing COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.

She made the remarks at a press conference that was preceded by this week’s cabinet meeting on Tuesday. She said:

With regard to law and order, Cabinet advises that in response to its earlier decision to further ease lockdown restrictions, security personnel will be directing greater attention towards the enforcement of critical COVID-19 containment measures such as physical distancing and the proper donning of face masks.

She also urged the citizenry to guard against complacency and continue to abide by the protocols and measures currently being applied to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

The resolution is made when Zimbabwe is relaxing lockdown restrictions amid a decline in the number of known coronavirus pandemic cases in the country.
