JUST IN: Mamombe Placed Under Harare Remand Prison Superintended’s Care For 2 Weeks

Joanna Mamombe, Harare West MP has been placed under the care of the superintendent at Harare Remand Prison effective today for 2 weeks to assess her mental problem to stand trial.

This was after her lawyers argued that Mamombe was not well and she could not stand trial after she failed to attend court last week.

Dr Fungi Mazhandu had also testified in court corroborating the narrative which says Mamombe had undergone the tests.

Police officers had to “discharge” Mamombe from a local medical facility she was seeking medical attention from last week when a warrant for her arrest was issued.

Meanwhile, the state is alleging that Mamombe is not unwell as she was caught on CCTV shopping on 4 September the day she was reported to be unwell to stand trial.

The state had applied to have the Harare West legislator admitted to government psychiatric hospital where she would be examined by two government doctors since the health experts who had allegedly examined her had not specified as to when she would be fit for trial.
