Kurauone Acquitted
Masvingo Magistrate’s Court today acquitted MDC Alliance’s Godfrey Kurauone who had been in remand for over 6 weeks. This was revealed by Tell Zim which tweeted that the state failed to prove that Kurauone was at fault:
MDC Alliance organising secretary Godfrey Kurauone has been acquitted on of blocking the free movement of traffic. Magistrate Madondo said the State failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that it was indeed Kurauone they said they saw blocking a road in Mashava on July 31.
The MDC Alliance also tweeted the development and thanked all people who stood by Kuraone during the time he was in remand:
Godfrey Kurauone has been acquitted. We thank all who stood in solidarity with him but condemn his unconstitutional detention and the refusal of bail throughout the process. The trial was political and a regrettable act of persecution. We stand by you, Kura.
Kurauone’s arrest and subsequent detention drew international attention as evidenced by a Tweet by a US Democrat stalwart Hillary Clinton which called on the release of Godfrey Kurauone.
