Khupe Targeting 11 Harare City Council Councillors With Revenge Recalls
The MDC T outfit led by Thokozani Khupe is reportedly plotting revenge recalls and they are targeting 11 councillors and other councillors who voted for Jacob Mafume instead of their nominated candidate Luckson Mukunguma, The Standard reports.
An insider told the publication that the party held an emergency meeting after the polls and a decision to recall 11 councillors in Harare and 5 councillors in Bulawayo was made. Khupe is reportedly also plotting to recall 5 councillors in Marondera.
A source that spoke to the publication about the possible revenge recalls in Harare said:
Eleven councillors are being targeted and they include deputy mayor Enock Mupamawonde, our chief whip Loveness Gomba and committee chairpersons and their deputies. The idea is to target those who nominated Mafume and seconded him, strong councillors and those in key positions that should be taken over by the MDC-T.
The faction was thrown into a quandary after the loss because it had been assured by [interim secretary-general Douglas] Mwonzora that Mukunguma would win. Other standing committee members want a lot of councillors who voted against them recalled, accusing them of being ungrateful for not being recalled.

Meanwhile the brand new Harare Mayor, Jacob mafume warned the MDc T against recalling more councillors as he said it will collapse the council:
What we know is that if they continue on that path, they will collapse the council and it is the residents that will suffer and also, it is most likely that their own councillors will not be able to return should the council collapse and by-elections are held.
They need to be very mature and stop throwing toys out of the cot. They should focus on residents’ issues and the residents simply want their interests served and not to see politicians behaving in that manner.
A source had previously made the same claims that the Khupe led faction is plotting to recall Harare Councillors in a bid to parallise the council and let the government take over.
