Gabriel Nyoni Joins Cape Umoya

Former Highlanders and Caps United winger Gabriel Nyoni has joined South Africa National Division side Cape Umoya United Football Club.

Nyoni had his contract with Absa Premiership side Maritzburg United terminated leading him to seek a new home.

The club announced the development on its Twitter page on Friday. A short post read:

Join us in Welcoming @Gab_nyoni27 to #thespiritedones Family – Our first signing for the up-coming 20/21 #GladAfricaChampionship Season Flexed biceps.

On Sunday, the 27-year-old told Sunday News that a hamstring injury which took long to heal and an elbow to his mouth by an opponent kept him out of the team for some time. He said:

I once got a hamstring (injury) and stayed out for a long time then it healed, then my lip was hit with an elbow and cracked. I nearly lost my teeth, from there I took stitches and stayed out for a while.

Nyoni joined Maritzburg United in July last year from Caps United, a few months after his switch from Highlanders where he had been since 2013.

At Maritzburg United, Nyoni signed a two-year contract, with an option of a 12 months extension.
