MDC Alliance Secretary General Chalton Hwende has revealed that they are mobilising voters to reject Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s bid to replace MDC Alliance legislators with MDC T nominees, Newsday reports.
Hwende said the move by ZEC is violating the rights of thousands of voters who chose legislators of their choice by replacing them with Khupe’s nominees:
It is the same as what happened in 2018 when a man that lost Presidential elections was sworn in as President. What is happening now is that Zanu PF is using Zec is stealing seats from MDC Alliance and giving them to the MDC-T.
We are not surprised, they can do what they want, but we will not betray the people’s struggle. They took away the rights of people who woke up at 4am to go and cast their votes.
Speaking about strategy, Hwende said countrywide, the electorate was getting ready to reject ZEC’s move to impose Khupe’s MPs on them:
I am here in Kuwadzana doing projects and residents are already signing their objections to imposition of MPs by ZEC and Khupe.
A number of people will challenge this move throughout the country, but we also know that dictators do not respect the Constitution and will do anything to subvert the people’s vote.
This came after ZEC published a statement notifying the nation of their plan to replace MDC Alliance MPs with Khupe’s nominees and further urged people objecting the move to lodge their complaints in 14 days.
