"Even You Could Not Have Solved Zimbabwe's Crises," - Mutodi

Former Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Energy Mutodi has said no one could have transformed Zimbabwe adding that only God has the capacity to do so.

He was speaking at a funeral of the late ZANU PF official whom he only identified as Mr Munyonga.

Mutodi speaks when the President Emmerson Mnangagwa-led administration which took over in 2017 following the demise of the country’s founding leader the late Robert Mugabe has failed to address the economic and humanitarian and political crises prevalent in the country.

There was hope when Mnangagwa took over from his long-time boss and mentor that he would flatten the over two-decades-long crisis but things have worsened in the past 24 months.

In a bid to turnaround the country’s fortunes, his administration introduced a raft of strategies including austerity measures which have however worsened the light of the citizenry.

The crises manifest in a shrinking democratic space, shortages of food, fuel, medicines, electricity and cash, and is also more pronounced in the skyrocketing inflation and high unemployment rates.

Observers say corruption was among leading factors hamstringing efforts to revive the economy while authorities are putting the blame on climate change and sanctions by Western powers as well as sabotage by the “country’s enemies.”
