"We're Targeting 5 Million Votes," - ZANU PF Aiming Victory In 2023

The ruling ZANU PF has instructed its newly elected Bulawayo Provincial executive committee to start recruiting new members for the party to retain power in the expected 2023 elections.

The party’s political commissar, Victor Matemadanda who is also the deputy minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs spelt out the huge task for the Bulawayo committee. He said:

As the party, we have a 5 million target which we have set for ourselves. Remember the president has put a vision but before we get to that vision we have said 2018 elections have created problems for us.

The president was in the same bracket with the opposition (2 million bracket). What we plan to do is to have a 5 million vote in the 2023 election so that the margin is big for all to see.

Fifteen (15) members of the 25-member executive committee for Bulawayo Province were elected at the event with reports saying the remaining 10 will be filled in due course.

While President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ruling party are adamant that they have since fulfilled most of the promises made during the 2018 harmonised elections, some cite the socio-economic and political crises in the country as a failure on the party of the government.
