Government Is Lawfully Arresting Criminals And Those Slandering Our Leaders - War Vets Responds To Catholic Bishops

The war veterans have also responded to the Catholics Bishops’ pastoral letter that rebuked the government for its maladministration and rhetorically admitted the human rights abuses but said they were inevitable as people are slandering their leaders, New Zimbabwe reports.

Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWA) Mashonaland West chairman, Cornelia Muwoni while speaking at the sidelines of liberation war hero Dimingu Foya’s burial at Chinhoyi Provincial Heroes’ Acre said the Bishops were being hypocritical.

Said Muwoni:

If bishops start abusing free speech to say the president or the government has no capacity to lead this country, they are misguided hypocrites. These are the same people that liberated the masses from colonial bondage

They (bishops) shouldn’t think this country can be governed in such a fashion they deem appropriate just to please them. Even God doesn’t permit what they are doing, slandering the country’s leaders. They are the ones rebelling against the sacrosanct word, the Holy scriptures, that they should be propagating

If they think they are better leaders, they should form their own political parties. Government is lawfully arresting criminals and those slandering our leaders. In order to correct things, there is some degree of force needed to ensure things change

The Catholics Bishops’ letter was met with stern hostility by the government which issued 2 statements in response to the pastoral letter and even said they were going to engage with the local Vatican Envoy to check if the Bishop’s letter signifies the Catholic Church’s position about President Mnangagwa’s administration.
