Juventus Appoint Andrea Pirlo As New Coach

Juventus have appointed former player Andrea Pirlo after sacking head coach Maurizio Sarri who was with the club for only one “very difficult” season.

The former AC Milan star signed a two-year deal just hours after ex-Chelsea boss was sacked by Juventus following Champions League exit. In a statement, the club said:

The club has decided to entrust him with the technical leadership of the first team, after having already selected him for Juventus Under-23.

Today’s choice is based on the belief that Pirlo has what it takes to lead, from his debut on the bench, an expert and talented squad to pursue new successes.

Some view the decision as bizarre since, the legendary playmaker earned his coaching badges at Italy training center Coverciano only in September 2018, and is yet to take charge of a competitive game since his certification.

The 41-year-old, who made 164 appearances for the club between 2011 and 2015, was only named as Juventus Under-23s manager 10 days ago but gets an immediate promotion.
