The Massive Beirut Explosion Might Have Been Caused By Ammonium Nitrate - Lebanon Prime Minister

The Lebanese government through their Prime Minister Hassan Diab has said the massive explosion that headlined yesterday, was probably caused by 2700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate stored in a warehouse, but the real cause remains unknown, Sky News reports.

This was further substantiated by the country’s Major General Abbas Ibrahim, of Lebanon’s General Security Directorate who said the blast was probably caused by confiscated high explosive materials while speaking to Lebanese TV.

However, Lebanon Prime Minister said they will investigate to bring closure to the nation and the 100 families that lost their loved ones and the 4000 injured people who were injured in the blast:

I promise you that this catastrophe will not pass without accountability. Those responsible will pay the price. Facts about this dangerous warehouse that has been there since 2014 will be announced and I will not preempt the investigations.

Videos of the blast have flooded social media platforms and speculation about the blast has already started to circulate on various social media platforms.
