"The Deaths Of Shiri, Other Elites Will Force Govt To Invest In Neglected Local Health Sector" - Zimbabweans

Some Zimbabweans have said the deaths of Lands and Agriculture minister, Perrance Shiri and other senior government officials must be an eye-opener for the government on the need to invest in the local health sector.

The Zimbabwean health sector has been collapsed for decades now with observers attributing the status to mismanagement of national resources by the ruling elite. One of the social media posts said:

When we told them to fix Zimbabwe’s Health system, they refused because they could fly to China , India, Malaysia etc for proper healthcare. Then came COVID and borders are closed. Nowhere to run.

A number of the country’s elite class including the late Robert Mugabe and Vice President Chiwenga, have over the years been getting medical attention from abroad.

With the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic that has seen governments all over the world closing their borders and or suspending outgoing and incoming flights, the country’s elites are stuck in the country and are forced to get medical assistance from local health institutions.

Some say the recent fatalities are likely to result in a government “taking a more radical approach to try and combat the spread of the virus.”
