Govt Refutes Kazembe Accident Social Media Reports

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage has dismissed as fake news social media reports claiming that Minister Kazembe Kazembe was involved in a fatal accident this Wednesday.

Social media was abuzz earlier today with claims that Kazembe was involved in a road accident with his driver passing away on the spot.

Pictures of an accident-damaged white twin-cab vehicle went viral on social media, with reports claiming that the car belonged to Kazembe.

In a statement, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage spokesperson Francis Mupazviriho said neither Kazembe nor his driver was involved in an accident. He said:

To the country, neither Minister Kazembe Kazembe nor his driver was involved in an accident today (Wednesday).

The Minister, who was surprised to receive the news about the ‘accident’, which was supposed to have claimed the life of his driver, is typically in good health and high spirits, having spent the greater part of the day conducting his routine duties in his office!

We urge the public to dismiss the falsehoods which, evidently border on pre mischief for ulterior motives.

Kazembe addressed reporters on Wednesday afternoon, a few hours after reports of the accident had emerged. In his address, Kazembe warned citizens against taking part in protests planned for 31 July, saying whoever is caught on the wrong side of the law will be punished.
