Discord Hits MDC-T Interim Leadership As Mwonzora Accepts Nomination For President
MDC-T interim Secretary-General, Douglas Mwonzora has accepted the nomination by the party’s Harare province despite last week’s move to block the nomination for president.
After the nomination, the party’s interim chairperson, Morgen Komichi said the nomination was null and void because the standing committee directed all provinces to stop any nomination processes till a directive with guidelines by the party’s standing committee is issued.
Mwonzora, however, told Daily News on Sunday that he had accepted the nomination despite the hostility from other party leaders. He said:
I feel humbled by Harare Province’s nomination and I am ready for the challenge, although it is up to the party to decide.
I will accept whatever decision they make. I have been in leadership for a long time and this will not be new territory.
