Google To Fund ZimLive.com With COVID-19 Journalism Relief

ZimLive.com, a leading publication in investigative and original exclusive breaking news in Zimbabwe, has been selected for COVID-19 relief funding by Google. Google made the announcement of the selection this week.

ZimLive is among 3 Zimbabwean publications that were selected, the others being Kwekwe Net and The Mirror. The funding is meant to help boost the capacity of newsrooms serving local communities with original news during the Coronavirus pandemic .

Google did not disclose how much each publication will be getting. It initially indicated however that “funding amounts will range from the low thousands for small hyper-local newsrooms to low tens of thousands for larger newsrooms, with variations per region.”

Said Google on the announcement of the selected publications:

“In the last few months, we have provided $39.5 million in funding to more than 5600 publishers in 115 countries through the Journalism Emergency Relief Fund.
