Mwonzora Tells Govt To Stop Harassing Chin'ono

MDC-T acting secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora said the ZANU PF government should desist from harassing and arresting corruption whistleblowers, but rather act against corruption.

Mwonzora made the remarks two days after the arrest of investigative journalist Hopewell Chin’ono by police at his Chisipite home on Monday morning. Mwonzora tweeted:

The government must act against corruption and not harass and arrest those who speak or act against corruption.

However, some Zimbabweans on Twitter did not take kindly to Mwonzora’s comments, accusing him of hypocrisy. One Tawananyasha Jr said:

Empty tweet, devoid of WILL, POWER, EMOTIONS! Kungoti ndinziwo ndataura. Hakuna Constitutionalist anotaura zviri shallow soo! Takakuudzai, mari yeZanu inokuitai Miranda Dougie, same same na [Linda Masarira] and Obert Gutu.

Another Twimbo, Terry Madzeka, said, “With all due respect ba Bertha it’s very difficult for us to take you serious especially the fact that you were working with them using the same system to cripple the real opposition. Apa we honestly feel kuti you just want to be seen to be saying something”.

ESimbanegavi accused Mwonzora of corruption after he was helped by the military to seize control of Harvest House:

Corruption is when mwonzora occupies harvest house with the aid of military handei tione mkoma Doug ndopazvotangira apa ndangoti murangarirewo.
