26-Year-Old Man Dies In Gwanda Road Accident

A 26-year-old man from Spitzkop, a suburb in Gwanda, died after he lost control of a vehicle he was driving before it veered off the road and overturned in a case of suspected speeding.

The tragedy was confirmed by Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele who said the incident which occurred on Thursday at around 5 PM along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road.

I can confirm that we recorded a fatal road accident which occurred in Maphane area at the 131-kilometre peg along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road. Elphas Moyo was driving a Toyota Mac X vehicle headed towards Gwanda with two passengers on board.

He lost control of the vehicle which veered off the road and overturned. Moyo was rushed to Gwanda Provincial Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon admission. Preliminary investigations have shown that Moyo was speeding. As police we continue to urge motorists to adhere to road regulations in order to avoid loss of life.

The two passengers sustained injuries.
