WATCH: Mahere Discusses "The Authoritarian Pandemic" In Zimbabwe
Fadzayi Mahere the spokesperson of the opposition MDC Alliance has said it is an insult to say the three MDC Alliance female activists – Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova faked their abduction and torture.
She made the remarks during an interview with The Research Bureau’s Jeffrey Smith to talk about government repression in Zimbabwe in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her remarks come after some senior government officials have asserted that the trio staged its abduction to soil the image of the government.
Meanwhile, the three say they were kidnapped from police custody by suspected state security agents. Investigations are still underway to identify the alleged perpetrators.
Mahere added that human rights violations in Zimbabwe could have caused chaos if they were committed in countries like the United States of America.
