MDC Alliance Vows To Block Khupe From Appointing Replacements For Recalled MPs

The MDC Alliance has vowed to take every possible measure to block MDC-T from appointing replacements to recalled legislators and councillors.

Reinstated MDC-T leadership has been recalling MDC Alliance Members of Parliament and councillors for ceasing to belong to the MDC-T.

The recalled officials are adamant that Nelson Chamisa, not the reinstated MDC-T leadership, is their leader. Speaking on the replacement of expelled members, MDC Alliance Secretary-General, Chalton Hwende said:

The battle is far from over, we won’t let the mandate of the people be hijacked. The process of replacing the senators and PR MPs is not that simple. First, there has to be a gazette, then nominations, which are then opened to objections. We will object at every turn if the proper procedures are not followed.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has climbed down on its decision to suspend elections during the lockdown.

The commission wrote to stakeholders asking for suggestions on how best to run elections during a pandemic.

The initial stance favoured the Khupe MDC faction since the recalled members could be replaced by way of appointments.
