WATCH: Malawian President Vacates State House After Losing Presidential Rerun

Malawi President Peter Mutharika has reportedly vacated Sanjika Palace, the Presidental Residence after it emerged that he lost the presidential election rerun to opposition candidate Lazarus Chakwera.

The Malawi Electoral Commission has not yet announced the official results which are expected within 8 days of the polling day but unofficial results have indicated that Chakwera has an unassailable lead.

James Chavula shared a video of Mutharika’s departure which he captioned with the words:

There goes Mutharika! The president of Malawi has vacated Sanjika Palace in Blantyre amid vote counting. No sirenes. No police escort. No pomp. No impunity. Just a man heading wherever he will find peace, knowing his nation has rejected him.
