It Was An Emergency – Govt Justifies Why The Drax Supply Deal Never Went To Tender

Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi has defended why the government didn’t go to tender with a COVID-19 material supply deal that was awarded to Drax International and touched a storm after Drax supplied the sundries at inflated prices, the Daily News reports.

In explaining why the Health Ministry didn’t go to tender on the deal after he was asked by MDC Alliance MPs in Parliament Ziyambi Ziyambi said:

Under normal circumstances, it was supposed to go through the tender process, but because this is an emergency situation, there was no need for a tender. It is an abnormal situation.

You are not an epidemiologist to know the seriousness of the situation. We have a task force made up of experts who give us instructions as well as the World Health Organisation

Meanwhile, Drax International representative Delish Nguwaya is in remand till 30 June as he was arrested for the scandal which the media is calling the COVID gate. Health Minister Obadiah Moyo was also arrested and charged with 3 counts of criminal abuse of office for his role in the scandal amid other charges.
