ARTUZ Leader Arrested During A Poor Salaries Protest In Masvingo

ZRP this afternoon arrested ARTUZ Provincial Secretary For Gender and Welfare, Sheila Chirisamhuru as she was protesting poor salaries at the Mucheke District Education Offices in Masvingo, Zim Morning Post reports.

Chirisamhuru was arrested when teachers congregated at the Education offices to announce nationwide protests, she was arrested for disorderly conduct and public violence.

Mudzitirwa’s arrest was confirmed by ARTUZ secretary General Nation Mudzitirwa who said:

We take it as a direct attack to the workers (teachers) who were exercising their constitutional rights in demanding a living. We demand an unconditional release of our colleague.

The protests will continue in every province in the country until the employer pays us a US520 monthly salary,

Teachers have rejected the government’s 50% salary increment and US$75 allowance as they are demanding that the government pay them US$520 per month.
