Chipinge Man Jailed For 2 Years For Stealing A Bible

A Chipinge man was sentenced to 2 years in jail for breaking into a home and stealing a Bible, Newsday reports. The man was initially sentenced to 36 months in prison before 6 months were suspended on condition of good behaviour and a further 6 months on condition that he restitutes the complainant.

Dingani Mucheto who is jointly charged with Simon Gwenzi Chibhoso, stole the bible only when they broke into the house of a teacher and when he was asked why the Bible only Dingani said:

I stole the Bible because I just liked it. I fell in love with it, that is why I took it

It is the state’s case that:

On April 13, at around 6am, the complainant, Edith Kaziboni, who is a teacher at Mundanda Primary School, went to her home in Chipinge town.

She later received a call that there had been a break-in at her cottage. Kaziboni went back to the school and discovered that her groceries and household property, including the Bible had been stolen and made a police report.

She later received a tip-off that some of her stolen property was being sold at Mundanda Business Centre and advised the police.

The police conducted a raid, leading to the arrest of Mucheto and Chibhoso.

Investigations led to the recovery of some of the property and it was later revealed that Mucheto only stole the Bible.

  1. If the man stole it to keep, he must be pardoned unless if he stole it to sell. God’s word must be free so if it was out of love of the word, he must be released.
