"Moratorium On Rentals Has Been Lifted" - President Mnangagwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the moratorium that was previously announced to allow tenants to stagger the payment of rentals has been lifted.

The president had announced the moratorium when the coronavirus induced lockdown was initially imposed on the country to curb the spread of the virus.

Back then, he argued that tenants were incapacitated to pay rentals since the lockdown confined them to their homes.

The moratorium sparked controversy with property owner saying their properties were their source of income therefore the moratorium would usher them into starvation.

Lifting the moratorium this Friday in his address to the nation on the state of the lockdown, the president said rent arrears can be paid in a period of six months.
