Farmers Expected To Deliver Upto 60 000 Tonnes Of Maize To The GMB By Monthend

GMB is expecting farmers to have brought in 60 000 tonnes of maize by the end of this month, The Herald reports. Farmers have reportedly already delivered, 46 092 tonnes of maize, 1 000 tonnes of sorghum, 907 tonnes of soybeans and 69 tonnes of millet so far.

Speaking to the publication, GMB CEO Mr Rockie Mutenha said:

We estimate to have received 60 000 tonnes by end of June. End of June last year we had received 18 046 tonnes of maize. GMB also arranged availability of fertiliser at depots so that farmers accessed fertiliser on time and before prices go up.

GMB promised farmers who bring their grains early to their depots a 30% incentive which means farmers who brought their grains early got about $16 000 per tonne.
