Illegal Fuel Dealers Flood Bulawayo CBD
Illegal fuel dealers have reportedly flooded Bulawayo City’s central business district where they are said to be capitalising on the country’s fuel shortage, The Chronicle reports.
According to the publication, the fuel dears are selling 5 litres of fuel for $5 or R100, while the same fuel is retailing at service stations for US$1,05 and US$1,25 while diesel goes for between US$1 and US$1,13.
One of the dealers who spoke to the publication said they get their fuel from a trucker who plies the Zimbabwe – South Africa route:
I have a truck driver that I deal with and he usually comes to Bulawayo on Wednesdays. He works for a cross-border transport company that delivers fuel from South Africa and each time he comes, we drain undetectable volumes of fuel from the tanker

I buy the fuel from service stations here because I have a lot of connections in the city. Whenever, they receive supplies, I make sure I bribe these petrol attendants so that they facilitate the deals of getting fuel without any difficulties.

Fuel has been in short supply since October 2018 and speculators always say suppliers are holding onto their stocks anticipating a fuel price increase by the government.
