Ex- Convict Returnees Causing Chaos In Quarantine Centers - Govt

Ex-convicts trooping into the country from South Africa and Botswana are causing chaos at the country’s various quarantine centres as they are said to be orchestrating violence at the facilities, New Zimbabwe reports. This was revealed in a post-cabinet media briefing yesterday when Public Service, Labour And Social Welfare Minister Paul Mavima said:

So there have been some complaints but I think the major contributing factor to abscond is the characteristics of a returnee. Among them were ex-convicts in South Africa and Botswana.

In some cases, they have exhibited violent disposition like the situation that we encountered at Prince Edward School. Some have been apprehended and are going through the courts to be tried.

The government said over 300 ex-convicts came into the country from South Africa and Botswana and they are quarantined at the country’s 47 quarantine facilities.
