More Than 15 MDC Alliance MPs Attend Parliament

Members of the opposition MDC Alliance on Wednesday attended Parliament, a development which confused many considering that the party had vowed that its members would no longer attend Parliamentary.

The decision to boycott Parliament was adopted in protest of the recalling of four of the party’s legislators including Chalton Hwende by the MDC-T’s reinstated leadership led by Thokozani Khupe.

The party’s vice-chairperson, Job Sikhala was among those who attended amid reports that the party’s National Council has resolved that the party’s legislators must attend Parliamentary sessions.

A statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere observed that the party consulted with its structures and constituencies and resolved that MPs and councillors are “to immediately resume their duties in Parliament subject to further review.” The statement further observed:

Any persons who were deployed by the party who did not comply with the Standing Committee resolution to suspend participation in Parliament’s activities pending this resolution will be dealt with in accordance with the Constitution and due process.
