Mabvuku Tafara Residents Resist Illegal Structures Demolition
The City Fathers yesterday had to call in security forces agents to quell the chaos that erupted when they tried to demolish illegal structures in Mabvuku-Tafara, the Daily News reports.
The army and police officers reportedly rounded up the residents that resisted the demolitions and they were seen packed in army trucks while other residents looked on.
A resident that spoke to the publication about the chaos said:
Chaos started when some small-scale traders tried to resist demolitions and started throwing stones at the municipal police. After some minutes, we then saw a truck with soldiers and police who then apprehended a few.
Today, the municipal police were asking people to remove their things before they pulled down the structures. In Mabvuku, one of the tuckshops was destroyed by a council bulldozer when the owner was not around and people looted the food in the tuck shop

The council has been demolition roadside vending stalls and illegal structures after the government directed all urban councils to do so in a bid to have cleaner cities according to a statement published by the Harare City Council Mayor.
The move was met with widespread hostility as people complained that the demolitions will see an end to other people’s livelihoods.
